Developing products that foster a healthy skin microbiome is a new trend in the Chinese cosmetic industry, attracting the attention of both international players and Chinese niche brands alike. The sector is poised to take off but is still hindered by a lack of support regulations standardizing labeling and advertising claims and potential government supervision. However, on the flip side, there is some proof in principle supporting the commercial feasibility of these products.

A microbiome is defined as the entire collection of microorganisms living either inside or outside the human body. 1 After the U.S. National Institutes of Health carried out the Human Microbiome Project in 2012, Microbiome has been a hot topic in healthcare, skincare, and food.
