BY-HEALTH's 2020H1 revenue was 3.125 billion yuan, up 5.23% from the same period last year. In the first half, the company's online business achieved rapid growth, with the online channel revenue increasing 46.83% year on year.

Coca-Cola

Food&beverage

Coca-Cola's 2020Q2 financial report shows that the net income fell 28% to US$7.2 billion, and operating profit was US$1.981 billion. The Chinese market performed well in the second quarter. In the Chinese market, the soda category grew by 14%, of which the Coca-Cola brand recorded the best performance, and the sales of zero-sugar Coke grew significantly.

Beingmate

Infant formula

Beingmate disclosed the 2020 semi-annual performance forecast. The net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was between 30 million to 45 million yuan, an increase of 124.63% to 136.95% over the same period last year. This was Beingmate's fourth consecutive quarter of positive net profit growth.

Nestle

Food, beverage, infant formula

In 2020H1, Nestle reported a total sales decline of 9.5% to 41.2 billion Swiss Francs (about 300.095 billion yuan), with an organic growth of 2.8%, and RIG reached 2.6%, thanks to the continuous growth momentum of America, Prina pet Food and Nestle Health Sciences. Sales in China recorded a double-digit decline in the first half.

Danone

Food, beverage, infant formula

Danone reported first-half sales of about 12.2 billion euros, down 1.1% from a year earlier, with sales flat, up 0.1%. In the first half, sales revenue from China's specialty nutrition business grew 2.7% year on year.


Company Dynamics

1. Plant-based meat company Beyond Meat announced to officially enter the Chinese mainland retail market through Chinese fresh food new retailer Fresh Hema. Its plant-based patties have been available at 50 Hema stores in Shanghai starting from July 4. Later, the product will be available at Hema stores in Hangzhou, Beijing, and Guangdong in August and September.

2. Yan Lu, Asia General Manager of the Infant Food Division of the H&H Group, said a series of new products under the children's snack brand GOOD GOÛT will be launched in 2020Q3. GOOD GOÛT is marketed in Asia for organic children's snacks between the ages of 3 and 12, including purees, nut bars, brownies, cereal crunches, etc.

3. Japan's Meiji announced to establish a company in south China's Guangzhou that produces and sells milk, yogurt, and pastries. The registered capital is about 18.4 billion yen (RMB1.2 billion), and the factory will start construction in the first half of 2021 and put into production in 2023. 

4. Danone announced the official opening of its newly established Open Scientific Research Center in Shanghai. The center is mainly responsible for breast milk research, intestinal health, and food safety and quality, to provide faster and more innovative nutritional product.

5. The principal scientist of Reeborne (an infant formula brand of Mengniu Yashily) announced the research fruit of his group, a new structure lipid called UPU. It is said the application of UPU will enhance the similarity degree of fat composition between infant formula and breast milk from 50% to 90%.

6. Global fast-food chain Burger King was accused of using stale bread to make burgers in several outlets in the eastern city of Nanchang during this year's "315 Evening Gala." Following the exposure, Burger King issued an apology on Weibo, saying the restaurants in question were operated by a franchisee and would be closed pending an investigation.

"Relax" yogurt targeting meat lovers, greasy food lovers, and those who have digestive problems after eating and drinking. The new product adds Bifidobacterium bifidum BB536 to relieve constipation symptoms and regulate intestinal ecological balance.

"Shine Now" energy drink for females. It adds caffeine, theanine, guarana, and free amino acids for an anti-fatigue effect. The product also oral beauty ingredients such as bird's nest acid, blood orange powder, and acerola cherry powder.

"Mini HEY TEA" sparkling water featuring 0 sugar and 0 fat. Flavors include grapefruit green tea, peach oolong tea, and grape green tea, and the price is at 5.5yuan.

Predator Shot energy drinks and collagen drinks. Predator is an e-sports brand under Acer. The energy drink contains caffeine, taurine, and vitamins, and is supplemented with lutein-calendula extract, designed to relieve gamers' visual fatigue. Collagen drink is designed for female players.

Wu Gu Mo Fang

"Shake Meal" meal replacement milkshake. Primary ingredients include potato plant extracts, white kidney bean extract, L-Arabinose, and BPL1 lactobifidobacteria, with no more than 170kcal per bottle. Price is 41g*6/109 yuan.

Children's health snack food brand KidsClub rolled out two products including yogurt melts and puff. The yogurt melts add probiotics BB-12 and prebiotics, and adopt freeze-drying technology, without adding flavor, color and preservatives. The puff provides protein and vitamins through a combination of multi-grain and cheese.

Baby food brand "Baby Mum-Mum" launched a rice cracker specially designed for infants over six months old. This is the first rice cake product for infants and young children that has passed the national safety standards for infants and young children cereals.

Regulatory Updates

1. On Jul 3, Center for Food Evaluation of China SAMR released the filing certificates of 30 imported health food products.

2. According to GAC notification issued on Jul. 4, the import qualification of meat products from some overseas manufacturers are suspended, involving Germany, Brazil, UK, Argentina, Italy, and Netherlands.

3. On Jul 8th, State Council of China released the 2020 Legislation Work Plan, which listed 16 draft regulations for approval and 26 regulations to be drafted or amended.

4. On Jul. 9th, CFSA unveiled the exposure draft of GB 10769 National Food Safety Standard Cereal-Based Complementary Foods for Infants and Young Children, and the proposed revision mainly involves the product definition, nutrient levels and package requirements.

5. On July 10th, China GAC announced to suspend the import qualifications (i.e. GAC registration approval) of three Ecuadorian manufacturers due to COVID-19 virus detected positive on the outside packages of imported frozen shrimps.

6. Wyeth Nutrisure nutrition powder(solid beverage) was rejected for discrepancy between cargo and certificate. Fonterra whole milk powder failed import sensory inspection

7. According to the recent updates on July 14, ten countries have the information of their registered dairy manufacturers updated, including Serbia, Italy, Spain, Russia, Germany, Poland, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Brazil and Argentina.
